WFW: Psalm 37:4

"Delight yourself also in the Lord,
and He shall give you the desires of your heart."
Psalm 37:4

I just want to add that I do not believe that this verse is saying that if you just love God enough then He will give you everything on your wish list. I believe that it is saying that as we delight ourselves in Jesus - as we seek Him, talk to Him, sing to Him, be in relationship with Him - our hearts will desire more Jesus. God will always give us more of Himself. May we delight ourselves in the Lord today!

Lauren,
I love your verse and your thoughts about it. Thank you for sharing it today!

I am glad I used one of your favorite verses today on my blog. God must have used me to share that one just for you today. To share how much He loves you and everyone else too.

I hope you have a day filled with praise!

I think this is a perfect take on this particular verse. One thing is certain...

the more I know Jesus, the more I delight in him. He is the overriding need of my heart. The overriding gift from heaven!

Have a wonderful day!!

Love it! So spot on in your explanation, too! With Jesus in our hearts, our desires become more like His every time we draw nearer to Him!

Love the clarification you put at the end, because I agree with you 100%!!!! Sometimes I thin people use this verse to get stuff, when it should only be GOD who is the desire of our delight.

Dear Lauren,

Yes, I believe that, too, and I also believe that when you have that kind of relationship with Him, He blesses you with things you truly desire that are in line with His will for your life, or He changes your desire for you because that is what your heart really wants Him to do.

I deeply desired to be married, but I always prayed that if it was His will that I not be married, that He would take that desire from me. Instead, He blessed me with a wonderful husband.

Absolutely, Lauren. The desires come from delighting in Him! We have to be so careful to not expect God to be Santa Claus giving us our dreams, but rather as our Heavenly Father giving us the things that delight Him for us. It is a lesson I am still learning!
