"It is I"

My husband gave a fantastic lesson to the Youth last week that I just love and I wanted to share it with you. The idea for the lesson came from a devotional from "Our Daily Bread" on August 12th - here it is...

" Sometimes we are overwhelmed by life. The crushing waves of disappointment, endless debt, debilitating illness, or trouble with people can cause hopelessness, depression, or despair. It happened to Jesus’ disciples. And it has happened to me.
Three statements by the Lord beginning with the words “It is . . .” offer us comfort, reassurance, and hope that Jesus is enough. The first is in Matthew 4 and is repeated three times: “It is written” (vv.4,7,10). In responding to the three temptations of Satan, Jesus gave us proof enough that the Word of God is true and overcomes the most powerful forms of temptation and pressure.
The second statement, “It is I” (Matt. 14:27), was spoken when Jesus told His terrified disciples that He Himself was presence enough to stop the howling storm and calm the raging seas.
Jesus spoke the third “It is” from the cross: “It is finished!” (John 19:30). He assured us that His death was provision enough to pay the debt for our sins and set us free.
Whatever our circumstances, Jesus is present with His love, compassion, and grace. He is proof, presence, and provision enough to carry us safely through."
David C. Egner

This lesson was such a blessing to me because we are really going through a stressful time in our lives right now.

I am reminded that I can get into God's Word and find relief... "It is written..." It is written that He will never leave me. Ephesians 3:16 and beyond assure me of God's love for me and that nothing on earth or in Heaven can separate me from my Father. There is no stressful situation that exisits that can keep me from Jesus!

Jesus also tells me, "It is I" ... again, Christ is assuring me that He's in every situation. No matter how scary, or stressful, devastating, or frustrating - He's in it! All I have to do is pause. Look up. Quiet myself. Bask in His presence, because He is there... just waiting for me.

I love "It is finished!" For some reason this thought is such a comfort to me. It goes beyond the obvious that Christ has defeated death and I can be with Him for eternity (which is obviously the best thing ever!) But, it also tells me that it's ALL finished. Every little issue that I ever face is already taken care of. I don't need to worry because it is finished! Praise God!!

"Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.'”
Matthew 14:27

Wow...that's really powerful. Reading that, I keep coming back to the fact that God is in every trial that we face that isn't a sin issue--so I can't help but think that sometimes He gives us trials just so we can remember that "It is written" "It is I" and "It is FINISHED!"

Amazing thoughts. Thanks for sharing! :)

In His loving arms,

So true, and what a great reminder. Even when we're nervous or apprehensive, God still knows today and tomorrow, and He will take care of us.

So many things can get in the way. Trying to get between God and us. Our circumstances or situations with friends or family.

God is always there for us and He never leaves us. That is such a comfort. And "It is finished" just helps me to know that I have no battles that Jesus hasn't already fought and won.

Praise the Lord for He is good, His love endures forever. Amen
(I can't remember the address for that scripture.)
