WFW: making music ...

" I will sing and make music with all my soul..."
Psalm 108:1

The image above is from the movie "August Rush." Secular, yes, but amazing! I am a music lover - I always have been! I danced when I was little, sat in front of the speakers and listened to the sweet sounds of Vivaldi day after day, and rejoiced when I was finally able to have my own violin and take lessons. I've played for 15 years now, and began teaching myself to play guitar a couple years ago. I still can't get into a car without automatically reaching for the power button to the radio. I absolutely adore music!

I used to struggle with prayer. I would sit on the couch in silence and try try try to concentrate on my prayer. It was so frustrating to me! Then a beautiful discovery was made this winter - God speaks to me in times of musical worship ... and I talk back. Music is my prayer language! I have the most wonderful conversations with Jesus in times of song. He speaks intimate truths into my soul in times of song. One more reason for me to be totally in love with music! I love how God creates each one of us uniquely and I love know that he wired me for song. Knowing this, "I will sing and make music with all my soul..."

What a great post. I love the movie August Rush.

I think many people don't realize that it is possible for there to be a variety of prayer languages. I think my prayer language is nature. We live in the country and I go for a walk by myself almost everyday. I put on my Ipod with Praise and Worship music and head out ... I never feel more connected to God and feel Him speaking then I do in those times.

Yes, I love this verse! Music takes me deeper through my worship to places I don't reach otherwise. I just pray to do like this verse means it...

Thanks for sharing!

So very beautiful ~ I love the violin, and have wanted to play a guitar. I believe we are in prayer when singing. :) Love and hugs, Cathy

Beautiful verse. Music ministers to me. My husband and most of his family sing or play quitars.
My grandson has learned to play the quitar and the piano. The piano is in his bedroom. He wanted it there so it would not disturb anyone.
Blessings,

Hello Lauren,

I think it is wonderful that you have a love of music and play musical instruments!

Please forgive my abundant of scripture on your blog…but I just think it is wonderful that God delights in our joyful noise! I am not talented in singing or in music, but thankfully with a joyful noise I can please God.

Psalm 66:1
make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:

Psalm 81:1
Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.

Psalm 95:1
O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

Psalm 95:2
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

Psalm 98:4
make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.

Psalm 98:6
With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.

Psalm 100:1
make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.

Great post! I have come to believe that God can speak to us through anything, secular or not. he created the universe and everything in, so it is all His to use as He would like. I love music as well, all kinds!

I came over here from this weeks blog hop, and wanted to say hello, so hello :) Please stop by and "meet" me some time.

That's awesome, Lauren!! You're right, we are all wired uniquely, and God will speak to all of us in different ways! I love music too. Actually, my entire family does!

We love music at our house too. My hubby has a song in his heart about everything and my daughter can't go a day without "her music." Loved this post, because I so understand.

Loved that movie too.

That was just beautiful. I too have a passion for music and singing praises to the Lord. Guess I never considered praise and worship a form of prayer...what an awesome realization.
