shop for a cause!

I told you something about Christmas was coming soon! I'm really excited to announce that November 1st will be Shop For a Cause here on my blog! What is this? Well, it's only the best shopping idea EVER and one that I cannot take full credit for. It's not exactly a new idea.

Christmas is less than 3 months away and that means shopping season has either already started for you, or is about to start for you. For the last few years I really haven't enjoyed Christmas the way I should. I've been increasingly frustrated with the way our society commercializes the holiday and makes it all about presents and "getting." Not only that, but there's the pressure of giving, and to be totally honest, we're really only giving to people who have no needs. Think about who is on your shopping list. It's family and close friends. Most of us (if not all) don't have any family or friends who truly know what need is. We complain that we need new shoes, when the reality is that we have 8 pairs in the closet and we're just bored with them. So, I've been more disgusted with this aspect of America's Christmas as each year passes.

BUT what if we took this idea of consumerism around Christmas and turned it into a way to actually do some real good in the world and provide for those in need? What if there was a way to still get gifts for the ones we love AND provide for the "least of these?" Guess what? THERE IS!

Shop For a Cause is going to bring you new ideas and a way to completely change the way you go about your Christmas shopping. For instance, my mother loves neat jewelry with vibrant colors. I could go to the mall and grab something from Macy's or Claire's... OR I could go to the website of a family who is raising funds to adopt an orphan and purchase a Uganda Paper Bead Necklace. This is a TRIPLE BLESSING - the necklaces are made by AIDS widows and orphans as a way for them to earn a living, and buying a necklace from the family means I've also contributed to an orphan finding a forever home, PLUS my mom will have a gorgeous piece of jewelry with a very special significance.

See what I mean? There are TONS of ways to Shop With a Cause! It's not just jewelry - you can get shoes, coffee, t shirts, art work, and much for this way!

Will you join me back here the week of November 1st and take the challenge with me to Shop For a Cause this Christmas season? I will be providing links to different sites where you can find amazing gifts for the ones you love... and help others at the same time! Please join in - I have a feeling it just might bring the joy of the season into your heart and home! :)

Perfect!!!! I was already pledging to try and buy handmade for Christmas and I think this will add to that!! If I can buy handmade and help a great cause out too, I will feel SO much better about buying gifts, because I was getting so bitter about the whole thing that I was feeling like not buying one thing. LOL! I love this idea!

I'm excited to see what all is on your list, I started mine last week with items to buy with a purpose and items that would be fun to have that have a purpose! Last year around christmas I did making a difference monday posts to encourage the same thing, I think it's so important to encourage this type of shopping, it so easy to forget what is truly important during this time of year when you are overwhelmed with all the crazy ads selling anything and everything for the "best" price.

Very cool! I just received a scarf that I bought from Mocha Club. It was made by women who would otherwise be making money on the streets & such. I love the idea behind this!

Yes, yes, yes...I will join you on Nov. 1!!! For years I have begged my extended family to celebrate Christmas for what it is...God's gift to us of His Son entering the world...not getting and giving gifts we don't need, outdoing each other from one year to another...I have become the sore thumb of the family by the way I smirk at commercialism...I have prayed to God for ways to show His love without judging those who are just doing what society has been dictating over the years...this year will be different...and thank you!!!
